    Re: Akonadi fails on startup

Akonadi does not like to start up automatically. Are you sure it has even started up before you start kmail?

did you look at this topic? http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3107616.0
This is all I got, if that doesn't fix it then I'm stumped.
        Good luck.

                  Re: Akonadi fails on startup

Hello, I also have Akonadi issues.

                  My first question is:
Is there an easy way to disable Akonadi for now? (I don't actually use kopte, KDE pim etc)?

The error messages I get when trying to run Akonadi are

                  1. System Settings, Advanced, Akonadi Configuration, (Akonadi not operational), Details... Copy Report to Clipboard/then to Kate (search for error)

                  [ERROR] Wrong option to sql-mode. Option(s) given: strict_trans_tables,strict_all_tables,strict_error _for_division_by_zero,no_auto_create_user,
                  no_auto_value_on_zero,no_engine_substitution,no_ze ro_date,no_zero_in_date,only_full_group_by,pipes_a s_concat

                  2. Command line, if I run: /usr/sbin/mysqld-akonadi

                  I get:
091108 16:12:33 [ERROR] Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run mysql_upgrade to create it.

(I tried running mysql_upgrade as follows:
                  sudo /usr/bin/mysql_upgrade --verbose --user=root --password=MyPassword --force)
but the same error message above occurs)

                  3. I also tried changing some settings in /home/MyHome/.config/akonadi mysql-local.conf and mysql-global.conf
as suggested in the following post:
                  http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=83092

But I'm still getting error messages in System Settings ...

I am running Kubuntu installed over Ubuntu, recently upgraded from 9.04 (Computer: Acer, Quad core, installed as 386, 4Gb Ram)
I also tried it on a recent Sony Vaio laptop. Fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10, then kubuntu installed. This also has Akonadi not starting. I only did limited investigation, but alos seems to be a MySQL problem.

Also tried unticking "Use internal MySQL server" . I get
No current MySQL error log found,

                  But then another error
Akonadi control process not registered at D-bus (and Akonadi is not running)

Many thanks in advance for any pointers, suggestions, especially on how to disable Akonadi, since on startup it cause kdeinit and other crashes on one of the computers, and I can live without it for now.

                    Bump?

I do use Kopete and the address book, and every time they start, I have to wait for Akonadi to fail before I can use the app proper.

"MySQL server log contains errors", it complains, and "Akonadi server process not registered at D-Bus" and "No resource agents found".

                          Re: Akonadi fails on startup

                          Hi,

I managed to get akonadi working after upgrading to Karmic by following this link:-

                          http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f...ac358&start=10

These are the steps (copied from above link) :-

                          - First delete $HOME/.local/share/akonadi including all subfolders
                          - Manually start Akonadi via System Settings
                          - mysql_install_db --datadir=$HOME/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ (this will throw a bunch of error messages. Just ignore them.)
                          - mysql_upgrade --socket=$HOME/.local/share/akonadi/db_misc/mysql.socket
                          - shutdown and start Akondi again.

I found I needed to install mysql-server first:-

                          Code:
                          sudo apt-get install mysql-server
And make sure you're in your home directory (I wasn't first time I tried this so it didn't work because the required temporary files couldn't be written!)

                          Code:
                          cd ~
After performing the above, I deleted the entries in the system settings -> advanced -> akonadi and install a KDE address book resource and KDE Contact resouce ( I think that's right - I'm not at my home desktop right now)

Firing up Kontact and add the new akonadi resources in Korganiser and Kaddressbook make these the default and delete the old entries.

Hey presto akonadi now fires up automatically.

Thanks, ds_shellback! That mostly worked for me.

At least Akonadi does not crash on startup anymore.

But it does not seem to start automatically... or at least it is shown as "not operational" in the system settings.
But when I start it manually it does start (without error) and is subsequently shown as running.

But anyway Kontact seems to work fine.

In Kontact have you changed from the "Default Address Book" to the akonadi resource. Once I did that, akonadi allways started automatically. (You probably want to use the akonadi calender resource as well).

I did have trouble removing the Default Address Book - see this thread.
