Aren't they activities you can delete via the cashew? (on the little tab at the rightmost screen edge)
    KDE, I heart thee.

On the cashew, click "unlock widgets".

Then right-click on one of the "newspapers" and choose "delete this". After you delete what you don't want, go back to cashew and click "lock widgets".

Configurability isn't very far along in 9.10 (one of the reasons we call it a tech preview).

First, if you want to get back to the default, you can delete .kde/share/config/plasma-netbook-appletsrc in your home directory and restart KDE.

You could remove the newspaper activity by editing the same file.

I'd encourage you to keep it. It doesn't hurt having it there. I found I didn't like it much at first, but it's really starting to grow on me. You might find the if you give it a chance, you'll like it.

Re: panel mess up in kubuntu remix

My thanks to kitterman and bnorontako for their fix which I used to recover my activity bar.

However, I screwed up other stuff too, and I wonder if there are other hints or if I should reinstall Kubuntu netbook 9.10.

I would appreciate more advice and directions to any documentation on how the new netbook GUI works if it exists, even in draft form and is less than ready for prime time.

I now have the activity bar at the top of a totally white desktop with only applets on it and a few programs (a terminal session and a help browser) still running.

I scrolled through the replacement .kde/share/config/plasma-netbook-appletsrc and the prior one that I screwed up in my trial and error, and I am baffled why the new one does not work.

Pressing buttons for Applications and Newspaper on the new default activity bar shows a successful press but no result. So any fix may have to be done at least initially thru the command line.

                Thanks in advance.

Re: panel mess up in kubuntu remix

                  An update:
                  I tried in konsole
                  kquittapp plasma
but was told no plasma app was running.

so in .kde/share/config/ I used mv to change the names of all that start with plasma to .old and restarted.
I got back most of what I had destroyed. The newspaper came back without its containment though.

Right now I am still considering a reinstall of the regular Kubuntu or perhaps the remix.

Re: panel mess up in kubuntu remix

                    Folks,

I still did not get back either the applications menu thing nor the newspaper so I decided to do a fresh install of the regular Kubuntu 9.10 desktop version and await the next netbook release--or perhaps something interim that is further along.

Right now, the Kubentu netbook 9.10 technology preview is a little too cutting edge for me. It is very interesting, and I learned some of the "plumbing" involved, but my main goals are pragmatic.
