    Network Manager

    Hey,

How is the Network Manager in the new Kubuntu? I've had nothing but bad experiences with the past few versions of kubuntu. Is this one finally bug fixed and fully functional? Or should I change to Ubuntu on this upgrade?

    Thanks,
    Dave.

    Re: Network Manager

It's a lot better than 9.04. I have not fully tested wireless, wired and VPN. So far it's working well for me. I had WICD installed on 9.04 almost immediately. I did notice it was not active after the initial install and one time when I moved from my home to the office network; otherwise, working perfectly here.
linux && bash = "the future"

wireless has ben working fine hear with networkmanager 0.7 (default) but I dont use WEP or eneything.

I see that WICD is a choise in system setings>advanced>hardware now but havent tryed it.

the default network manager WAS having some dificultey reusing it's setings on a reboot but that prob disapeard about a week or so ago....(with some upgrades).....and it's ben working just fine exept if you nead net befor the desktop has loded sutch as auto mounting NFS shares probabley best to enabel wicd if you nead that.

It sucked for a while, but I would say within the last few weeks, it is working very well so I have not, for the first time since 8.04, ditched it in favor of wicd, The only complaint I have is cosmetic... I cannot see the signal strength because the white numbers are too light for the default background.

+1 on this. I've been using NM for the first time in a long time on KK as well. I also agree that initially the icons for it sucked and were completely unusable with the Oxygen theme. Recently though an update came it for it and they are much better now (See Attachment).

In addition to the new icon update, I place the 'wifi' plasmoid on the desktop. I can then tell what my signal strength is at a glance.
