karmic and Mysql 5.1 and Squeezebox server

Mysql 5.1 isn't compatible with my main use of kubuntu on a computer, that is Squeezebox server. Ubuntu uses 5.0 which is compatible.

Is it possible to use Mysql 5.0 with karmic kubuntu?

    Mike.

Re: karmic and Mysql 5.1 and Squeezebox server

I have found an answer to my problem and there is now an update to Squeezebox Server to allow it to work with karmic 9.10.

You will have to use the testing release 7.4.2 (29019) until the update gets into the stable release.

if you update SBS first everything should be Ok otherwise reinstall SBS deb using the 7.4.2 release.

      It still uses mysql 5.0.

@ Muldark, How did you manage to get it work?

Re: karmic and Mysql 5.1 and Squeezebox server

Hi, how do you update and upgrade Squeezebox server?

If you have updated to karmic and the desktop is working then start kpackagekit.

then go to settings and you will see a software sources button.

Click third party sources and you should see a line with slimdevices in the title. you might also see aline that says disabled when up dating. if so carryon as below anyway

highlight the option and click edit. the third line down "Distribution" might say stable.

change this to testing and close.

makes sure the line has a tick to the left. don't worry if it says disabled, because ticking the left hand box enables the update.

Click close and relaod close verything and you should end uop with a possible upgrade for squeezebox server.

When you have finished go back to the sources and change the distribution back to stable. everything will catch uop in due course when the main release becomes 7.4.2.

If none of the above makes sense the go to the squeezebxo downlaods page at logitech and download the testing .Deb file. This is labeled as beta or pre release. and should be 7.4.2 with a number after it.

if none of the above makes sense then tell me what you are trying to do to update squeezebox server.

        mike.

Re: karmic and Mysql 5.1 and Squeezebox server

I've had to reinstall kubuntu 9.10 and I have had the same problems that have been reported. That is the mysql5.1 dependency issue.

kubuntu 9.10 seems to put in mysql-server-core which isn't sufficient to satisfy the dependencies.

I installed mysql-server-5.1 and this didn't seem to damage anything and the dependencies of SBS 7.4.2 are now satisfied.

I am trying to get the problem resolved at a second attempt.

          Mike.
