    FFMPeg unsupported codecs problem

I'm trying to convert a flv video to mp3 but I'm getting an unsupported codecs error message.
    Why is that?
    Thanks

How are you trying to convert - what GUI application or CLI command - and what is the exact error message?

      ffmpeg -i video.flv audio.mp3

And I get "Unsupported codec for output stream #0.0"

      This is ffmpeg version output:

I wrote this post because there is apperantly an error with ffmpeg's package.

pd: And I already know about that plugin for firefox. Thanks anyways

Who said you were? From your OP:
                  ffmpeg -i video.flv audio.mp3
My read of the link I provided would indicate that your CLI above is syntactically incorrect. You are trying to extract the audio only from a video file.

And, FYI, -vn is not necesary as I'm trying to convert to audio only format, so there is no place for errors, +I have been converting videos this way since ever. But ffmpeg broke when I did the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, and that's why I sad that there is a problem with the package.

Yes I do. I also have libavcodec52 so it should work, but it doesn't.

                            Any other ideas?

so whats the problem then? Main does not ship any mp3 encoder, it can
only be found in multiverse. That's where the unstripped version is so
it can be built against it.

                              With the Karmic:

ffmpeg utility library - transitional package

This package can be safely removed if no other packages depend on this
The libavcodec-unstripped-52 (Karmic) will install > Package: libavcodec-extra-52:

                              ffmpeg codec library

This is the codec library from the ffmpeg project. It supports most existing encoding formats (MPEG, DivX, MPEG4, AC3, DV...).

This package contains a unrestricted version of the libavcodec shared object that should only be used by Debian packages.
                              Have you tried it ?
