How are you trying to convert - what GUI application or CLI command - and what is the exact error message?

I just used winff .........the GUI for ffmpeg to convert a .flv to mp3 and it did ok even though the konsole output sead it faled press eney key to continue.
the resalting Mp3 is good though................just a FYI if you use firefox and do this sort of thing a lot you mite want to try the firefox extenshon downloadhelper it will dl stuff from youtub and the like and do the converting to.
My read of the link I provided would indicate that your CLI above is syntactically incorrect. You are trying to extract the audio only from a video file.

And, FYI, -vn is not necesary as I'm trying to convert to audio only format, so there is no place for errors, +I have been converting videos this way since ever. But ffmpeg broke when I did the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, and that's why I sad that there is a problem with the package.

this is strang as I allso uped to 9.10 from 9.04 did you reenabel the medeabuntu repo as the up grade will coment it out # as part of the proses mabey uncoment it and do the update dst-upgrade thing and see if it gets fixed?
