[SOLVED] Indicator Display icon on Panel

What is that envelope icon for? It has done not a thing until I just ran Kopete and it told me it is running. I know it is running, I ran it. So is it linked to KDE's PIM system? Can I remove that thing? I don't like it.

    Envelope?

Is it an e-mail notifier of some kind? It's not the "Device" notifier, is it? Can you hover your cursor over it and get some clue about it?

I did and that is what it says it is "Indicator Display". It's next to the clock. Go here. Most recent desktop shot shows it. http://www.kubuntuforums.net/index.p...o_show&ida=267

I use Thunderbird and it never has indicated new e-mail. Thunderbird did, but not that envelope thing.

note: just looked, on my Panel it is next to a green toggle switch next to the clock. On the base install it was originally next to the clock.

This is the new message indicator. It work similar to the message notifier in the system tray, except it doesn't bother you as much. This is a KDE only app, so Thunderbird would not use it, but Quassel or Kmail would.

If you don't need or want it you can remove it.

It is a plasma widget from the Canonical/Ayatana - more:

            Recommended packages installed by default

In accordance with the Debian Policy Manual (which says "The 'Recommends' field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations"), the package management system now installs packages listed in the Recommends: field of other installed packages as well as Depends: by default. If you want to avoid this for specific packages, use apt-get --no-install-recommends; if you want to make this permanent, set APT::Install-Recommends "false"; in /etc/apt/apt.conf. Be aware that this may result in missing features in some programs.

I hate being the kid in the class who feels like he knows what he's talking about.... then the professor walks in.

Thanks for the info Rog. 8)

Re: Indicator Display icon on Panel

Since I do use Kopete, I decided to leave it. At least I now know what it is.
