    Password Management in Bash

I launched this question in Launchpad, but I think it is actually a bug. Too bad Launchpad wants me to add this bug from a non Windows computer...hard when I am at work with XP.

When adding a new user in Kubuntu Karmic Beta 1:
I give the user a 2 character password and it accepts it.
I leave all the password management items such as expiry date disabled.
When I try to log in as the new user KDE says that I have to change the password and it will not accept anything, but very strong passwords. I don’t want/need strong passwords for my kids.
I have tried enabling allow blank passwords, but it will not accept that either.
How do I force KDE to accept two character passwords and make it stop asking for a new password?

Anyway anyone know some Bash commands to override this problem? I just want simple passwords for my young kids to log in with.

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Password Management in Bash

One alternative is to enable password-less logins for their accounts.

SystemSettings > Login Manager > Convenience
    Check Enable Password-Less Logins
and choose the account/s you want to do this for.

On my system I don't use particularly strong passwords for my user accounts, and they work fine. So far I haven't been able to find any documentation on ubuntu-specific restrictions on passwords.
