Calling all Karmic Users: Do you have a Boot Splash?

Are you running Karmic? If so, I'd appreciate knowing if you see a boot splash (the Kubuntu logo after GRUB and before the login screen).

I don't get one and after filing a bug against xsplash, it was thrown out because I was using Kubuntu and apparently we haven't put it in yet... neither have we put in ksplashx which was slated to replace it on Kubuntu. "Not to worry. Karmic is the development branch!" I hear. Right. But we're in Beta. We've passed feature freeze. We've passed artwork freeze to get the art in. What on Earth is happening?

I'm presuming that the Kubuntu ninja's are preparing a surprise attack and that *some* kind of boot splash is about to be unleashed... but with all the milestones being passed... and less than 5 weeks until final release... and getting bugs about not having a bootsplash closed purely because I'm on Kubuntu...

Well, let's say it's got me a bit nervous.

Anyway, if *you* have a bootsplash on Kubuntu Karmic, I'd love to hear it!

I don't have it. At the moment I have some slightly messy text messages flashing up (a couple in VGA format and then, after the screen resolution is set to the right level, a few more - fsck messages etc. - in smaller type. Then the login screen appears.

I'll be happy when this is sorted out as, a few weeks ago at about alpha 4, the boot-up process was looking incredibly slick and professional. If I wanted text whizzing by I'd install Slackware

Re: Calling all Karmic Users: Do you have a Boot Splash?

I can confirm this on my desktop and laptop.
I get a usb:ID: unable to access.... message then it gives me a short fsck message and goes on to the login screen.
Very fast but alas no splash.

Maybe the boot process is soooo fast the splash screen has no time to render.

It should be sorted shortly though?:

I hope so. The wiki page is two months old, it's past both feature and artwork freeze, no one seems to have a splash and 9.10 launches in 23 days... Oh I really hope you're right. *fingers crossed*

No Splash here either, although it did work a while back for a day or two, and yes it added a professional touch to the boot process, but it just stopped working .

No I don't have it either. Silly thing it was there when I boot off the live CD. By the way 9.04 doesn't have a boot splash on my computer either but other computers I have put it on do.

Me too, but I think I have to pick a time when everything's working properly at the same time

But seriously, stuff's getting fixed pretty quickly - just some fixes break other things

Quite possibly, and that's what I'm hoping. Maybe this gets around feature freeze because we had a bootsplash before and so this is just considered a "bug". Just seems to me that introducing a whole new bootsplash process would be a feature blocked by the freeze.

I wouldn't be surprised at this point if the Kubuntu Devs ended up just putting back in the old bootsplash (which would be a huge improvement than what we have now). I'm still hoping for a nice, fading-in splash like what we now have on logout.

Just installed all today's updates, and am on KDE 4.3.2. Still no bootsplash. Sigh.

This is a Kubuntu issue rather than a KDE one. Unfortunately, it seems that given this doesn't affect people on Ubuntu (although it has nothing to do with KDE) that we're getting a bit of "pass the buck" here.
