    That actually makes sense to me -- the only real purpose of a graphical splash screen (i.e. one that is not for announcing license rights) is to give the user a reason to hope the booting process hasn't failed, while he's waiting for his desktop. If the booting process is pretty fast, then he's going to see his desktop fairly soon and not need the reinforcement.
