Kernel headers, 2.6.31-11-generic -- do you have them?

There is "stuff" in my /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.31-11-generic directory, including a kernel directory, but VMware is failing to build its modules, and putting up a "no kernel headers found" error, even though I showed it where to find them. Anyone else hit this yet?

    I seem to have them.
VirtualBox is working, sorry I don't have VMWare to try.

    Code:
    greenman@Wolfenstein:/usr/src$ ls
    linux-headers-2.6.31-10 linux-headers-2.6.31-11 vboxdrv-3.0.6 vboxnetflt-3.0.6
    linux-headers-2.6.31-10-generic linux-headers-2.6.31-11-generic vboxnetadp-3.0.6
    greenman@Wolfenstein:/usr/src$ ls -al linux-headers-2.6.31-11-generic

I may be off target here, but I got that message when trying to run an existing VMWare player 2.5.2. when upgrading to the 31 kernel. Even reinstalling the player did not fix it. The only thing that did was installing the latest VMWare player, 2.5.3.

        Thanks.

I'm running VMware Player 2.5.3, so it's not (AFAIK) an issue with the VMware version -- it was fine on the 2.6.31-10 kernel. This is the first problem of this kind that I have had running it on 9.10. I think I'm going to let it sit for a few days, and continue upgrading Kubuntu, and see if anything changes. If it doesn't get sorted, I'll try a reinstallation of VMware Player.

Something told me you might already have the latest version

Don't know if you are aware of this thread?

Re: Kernel headers, 2.6.31-11-generic -- do you have them?

No, I had not seen that -- thanks!

But, the -30 patch from krellan seems to work just fine on the -31 kernel. That one is found here:

            http://communities.vmware.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

So I did not need a patch to continue running my VM when the kernel changed to -31 (Kubuntu and/or sidux with KDE 4).

However, there's a keyboard/mouse control problem that comes with the -31 kernel (and is surely related to new versions of X.org as well). Basically, the Linux host OS continually grabs back control of the mouse and cursor, when you are trying to work in the guest OS. The fix for that is to add a line to the /etc/vmware/bootstrap file -- the fix is found toward the end of this thread:
