The latest SL Linux client works beautifully together on my Sony VAIO notebook, including sound, media, music and VOICE. And that is while running it while running Karmic from a LiveCD! Runs from a LiveCD just as fast as it does from my HD.
EDIT 8-21-09 10:53 CST
I have installed the 64b Karmic to a 40GB partition of my HD. It is even faster from the HD than it is from the CDROM, obviously.
However, there are some differences.
In SecondLife Jaunty would give me distorted images when I edited my avatar or took snapshots.
The LiveCD of the 64bit Karmic gave excellent snapshots and the appearance editor images were clear and clean. After installation on my HD the snapshots are clear and clean MOST of the time. The Appearence editor gives some lines through the center of the images when parts (eyes, face, etc...) are selected.
I have also noticed that when I run SecondLife WITHOUT an active desktop the FPS meter, and the performance, ranges between 5 and 30 fps. WITH the active desktop checkbox checked, the FPS never goes above 6 and the movement the SL landscape is jerky. I am surprised that video performance goes DOWN in SL when Active Desktop is on. It doesn't seem to make a difference with an app like Stellarium, which is always above 30 fps.
