Re: problems with kubuntu 9.10 alpha 3

I am going on to test kubuntu 9.10 alpha 3.
Now I try to describe better my problem with audio cd.
My pc have 2 units, the first is a dvd reader, and the second is a dvd rewriter unit. With gnome, both run correctly.
When I insert an audio cd in the first unit everything run normally, kaffeine play it, and dolphin can navigate in my audio cd.
but when I insert the same cd in the second unit, it do not run.
Kaffeine do not read it and dolphin, instead, show me this message: Could not open, or anything of this, but now I do not remember correctly.
Then, when I connect to my pc an another external dvd reader with usb cable, I have the same problem, both kaffeine and Dolphin, do not read my audio cd.
    Have I only this problem?
I have this problem with every version of kubuntu, but with ubuntu I have not any problems.
    It is very strange.....

The two CD (/DVD) problem has been there (here) from the Hardy > Topic: Multimedia Problem: Maybe you don't have enough rights...(e.g: no disc in drive)

With the KDE 4 Kaffeine the error message when launching from the konsole with the command:
      Code:
      kaffeine --audiocd /dev/cdrom
      is
      CDROMREADTOCHDR: No medium found
      CDROMREADTOCHDR: No medium found
and the Kaffeine error notification is:
Cannot find input plugin for MRL [cdda:/]

It seems to me that the Kaffeine/Xine is looking the CD from the wrong place.

To (permanently) change the order of the working / not working CD:

      /etc/udev/rules.d/README
The files in this directory are read by udev(7) and used when events
are performed by the kernel. The udev daemon watches this directory
with inotify so that changes to these files are automatically picked
up, for this reason they must be files and not symlinks to another
location as in the case in Debian.

Packages do not generally install rules here, this directory is for
local rules. If you want to override behaviour of package-supplied
rules, which can be found in /lib/udev/rules.d, you can do one of
      two things:

      1) Write your own rules in this directory that assign the name,
symlinks, permissions, etc. that you want. Pick a number higher
than the rules you want to override, and yours will be used.

      2) Copy the file from /lib/udev/rules.d and edit it here; you
should generally only do this if you want to prevent a program
      from being run.
      Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?
      1. Thread: Please explain how to access old kubuntu forum posts
      2. Thread: Lost Information
