    Huawei E226 Not Working

    Hello All,

    I can't connect a mobile broadband using a Huawei E226 3G modem. I've applied many hints and tips I've found on the web with no success at all.

    0. Created a mobile broadband connection in KNetworkManager. Didn't work, and...:

    1. Edited the /etc/ppp/options file and added the line "ipcp-max-failure 30";
    2. Edited the ~/.kde/share/apps/networkmanagement/connections$/{connection ID} and changed the MRU and MTU from 0 to 1440;
    3. Edited the same file and tried several DNSs;
    4. Installed network-manager-gnome and created a new connection, but it didn't work either;
    5. Removed the app above and returned to KnetworkManager.

    Now the "Mobile Broadband" tab is disabled!

    Please help - I need mobile broadband working ASAP!

    TIA,

    Pipoca

    Re: Huawei E226 Not Working

    You will likely have more luck with KPPP dialup for this. I did like this with a Huawie USB modem:

    Step 1, it seems removing PIN on the sim card is a good idea as I only
    got it working after doing so

    Step 2, after inserting the usb modem it comes up as a storage device.
    "Eject" it

    Step 3: check from shell via "dmesg" what /dev/whatever the modem gets.
    Mine got /dev/ttyUSB0

    Step 4: I suspect wvdial will work just fine but I chose to use KPPP

    create an account called Econet (in my case...) and set number to dial to
    *99***1# (again in my case, most often it is *99#1 I think, check with your provider)
    create a modem called 3G, set it to use /dev/ttyUSB0 (in my case) and
    then press "query modem"
    you should get some response
    go into "modem commands" where you should now have commands predefined
    set "initialization string 2" to "AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","whatever.net"" (again, the net address needs to come from your provider)

    save and then try to connect

      Re: Huawei E226 Not Working [SOLVED]

      Hi Sinclair,

      Thank you very much for your suggestion, but when I connected the modem it was immediately recognized by the system and I thought "what the hell - I'll give it another try...". Then I created a new mobile broadband connection in KNetworkManager - with the default parameters for my provider - saved, activated it and voilà!: I'm posting this message using my new mobile broadband connection. Very strange...

      Thanks again,
