How to install downloaded BCM4312 nic driver -- Solved

I have a HP Pavilion dv6835nr 32bit, I reinstalled Kubuntu (Karmic 9.10) and I can't remember what I did to get it work the first time around. I know the easiest way to install software is by using KPackageKit by entering something into the repository list.
I downloaded the file hybrid-portsrc-x86_32-v5.60.48.36.tar.gz to the Desktop directory. I would need to learn what to enter into Konsole. But 1st, I want to learn the easier route. Any help on this?

OK. Wireless is now working. What I did was open up the "Hardware Drivers" app. It showed a short list of proprietary drivers: 1) Broadcom B43 wireless driver 2) Broadcom STA wireless driver 3) Software Modem. I activated #1 on the list before activating item #2. I didn't do anything with #3 item.

I hope this helps someone else with this issue.

Nice guide. I'd like to sometime be able to download this as a PDF file for easy viewing/reference.

Dude, Magic of Linux, you can create your own with your web browser. If you are using FireFox go to file, print. Choose the print to pdf option. Give it a name.pdf and it will print on the location that you will choose on your desktop as a PDF.

One of my favourite web browser is Konqueror. You can do the same with it. Go to file, print. If you have not chosen a printer or set up a printer, the option will be a pdf by default.

I am running the 64bit Kubuntu Lucid Lynx Alpha 3. I used FireFox ver 3.6 to print a pdf of that website. The "U"s show up find fine. What language setting are you using?

I'm using Firefox 3.5.8 on 64bit 9.10 with kde4.4. I'll try and save the latest pdf guide once Lucid lynx has been officially released.
