We live in rural Ohio. We home-school our daughter. the school had given us a Sierra wireless USB 598 broadband modem. I followed the instructions from Sprint to get it going and set it up so my Kubuntu tower was working as the gateway for my home network. this worked perfectly till 3 weeks ago. we took my wife's vista laptop out and took the usb with us to be connected. while out the sprint software told us that there was a firmware update for the unit. so we downloaded & installed it. from that point when ever i connected the usb modem to the computer it would connect with no problem but it no longer would forward any info to the wi-fi at the house. I thought that this might be a issue with the tower so i wiped root and installed 9.10 that made no improvement. so the other day i was going to set up ICP on my daughters school laptop running xp and leave it running in the den connected to the router by cat5. It set up but as soon as i connected the cat5 to the laptop it disconnected the broadband connection. It gave an error box which said only one Internet connection at a time.
Is this Sprints way of getting me to buy a moble hotspot from them?
any ideas on a work around?
