Wireless network detected but will not connect

Ok, I have no hair left to pull out with this problem so I'm asking for help again.

    My system is as follows:
    Dell Studio 1555
    Broadcom bcm4312 wireless chip
    built in bluetooth
Karmic 64 bit dual boot with Win7

I have ndiswrapper installed, xp drivers installed, wired ethernet works every time, wireless networks are found but will not connect. Seems to have a problem with resolving the address. No security on the router. It has connected several times before but drops on reboot. If I play with it for a while with the eth0 connected it will eventually connect wirelessly and work flawlessly until reboot. Currently using Network Manager but have tried wicd and it will do the same thing, connects at install but drops on restart. I have gone through every post I can find and tried many things but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated and any additional info needed will be most happily made available.

    Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem - I think it may have something to do with the annoying wallet app.

I can log onto unsecured wireless networks (like now) and even a few secured ones but for some reason, I can't log onto the secured one here at my house. I can log onto the secured connection from my XP side and my ipod touch but no luck with kubuntu 9.10.

It can 'see' the network fine, but just hangs on the authentication part (and yes, I typed in the pasword correctly).

From what I've read on other sites, I think it may have something to do with the wallet not giving up the password. I've tried the wallet system enabled and not but no luck.

One odd thing in that when I look at wallet management the wallet name is "The name org.kde.kwalletd was not provided by any .servicefiles". Whatever that means.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Have you tried going to System->Hardware and checked available drivers? I have that wireless chip as well and when I activated the Broadcom STA driver it worked.

Re: Wireless network detected but will not connect

I have activated the Broadcom STA driver but still cannot get a working connection to my Netgear router. This is very annoying as it seems to be the password point that is preventing the connection. Is there a way of doing without kdewallet?

You can install wicd which doesn't use kdewallet or just disable kdewallet.
