    Re: No wireless network found

    Thanks!!
I get a warning when issuing "modprobe ndiswrapper" :

    hakiza@hakizadatorn:~$ sudo su -
    root@hakizadatorn:~# cd /home/hakiza/b4312drivers
    root@hakizadatorn:/home/hakiza/b4312drivers# ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
    installing bcmwl5 ...
    root@hakizadatorn:/home/hakiza/b4312drivers# depmod -a
    root@hakizadatorn:/home/hakiza/b4312drivers# modprobe ndiswrapper
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.
    root@hakizadatorn:/home/hakiza/b4312drivers#

    Should I ignore it?

        Re: No wireless network found

ifconfig does not show a wireless port. The WiFi lamp is not on either. I forgot to say that my laptop does not have a mechanical switch: I can use wireless service when running in Windows Vista.

        Here is what I get:

          Re: No wireless network found

First, now that you are done, exit from the console (type exit) so you are no longer running as root. You will still be in the console, but running as your normal user (hakiza). Then type:
          Code:
          iwconfig
          and copy/paste the output.

            Here is the outcome:

            hakiza@hakizadatorn:~$ iwconfig
            lo no wireless extensions.

            eth0 no wireless extensions.

            hakiza@hakizadatorn:~$

              Re: No wireless network found

there must have been a problem with your driver install, you should now have a
wlan0 device as well as the lo and eth0 ones..

what is lsmod giving you for drivers now?

                    Re: No wireless network found

                    So, you followed these steps:
OK. I'll list the steps necessary to install, test and make permanent your wireless connection.

                    1) clean up blacklist.conf and added
                    blacklist bcm43xx
                    blacklist b43
                    blacklist b43legacy
                    blacklist ssb
                    to the blacklist.conf file.

                    2) removed b43-whatever from the list of loaded modules

                    3) uninstalled the bcmwl5 driver
                    sudo ndiswrapper -e bcmwl5

                    4) rebooted to clear memory and start fresh.

                    5) open a Konsole and cd to the directory where your windows drivers are;
                    sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf

                    6) check to see if driver is linked to hardware:
                    sudo ndiswrapper -l

                    If you see
                    Installed ndis drivers:
{name of driver} driver present, hardware present

                    or
                    {name of driver} : driver installed
                    device ({Chipset ID}) present

i.e. bcmwl5 driver present, hardware present
then your driver was installed correctly and bound to the hardware.

                    7) check to see if driver works
                    sudo depmod -a
                    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

If your wireless has a lamp it should turn on. You can now use "ifconfig" and "iwlist scanning" to check.
and after the 7th step the iwconfig command lists no wireless devices. That means that you must do step 8.

8.) Either you can show your wireless router using ifconfig and iwlist or you can't. If you can't then you should uninstall everything and clean up. Then, look for another broadcom 4328 driver to download and unzip, and retry steps 1 through 7.
And, if you cannot find a Windows driver that will work then using an eth cable from the back of the wireless is the most economical option. Another option is to purchase a USB wireless chip that works with Linux. Here is an affordable one: http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.php?pd_id=3&pl1_id=1&pl2_id=44

                      Re: No wireless network found

Thank you GreyGeek and you other guys who tried to help me. I really appreciate. Kubuntuforums is a place to be.
Now I 'd like steps to uninstall everything and clean up the system.
I think the easy way is to purchase a USB wireless chip that works with Linux and the link you've provided will help.

                        Re: No wireless network found

                        uninstalled the bcmwl5 driver:
                        sudo ndiswrapper -e bcmwl5

sudo rmmod ndiswrapper (IF lsmod shows it is listed. Also, check to see if bcmwl5 is loaded. If it is, remove it. Same for lib80211 and the 80211_crypt... modules. In other words. rmmod ANYTHING related to wireless stuff you may have installed.)

                        sudo depmod

                        reboot.

                            You'll want to rmmod these:
                            b44 28684 0
                            ssb 35300 1 b44

                            and then do

                            sudo depmod

                            again. Then you'll be clean.

Thanks a lot! When I first removed b44, the wired network went out. After that I finished all the steps you mentionned and rebooted again the system, the wired network works again.

                              Thanks!
