wifi icon disappeared (solved) :)

When I updated to 9.10 everything was fine. Then, I'm not sure if I clicked it away or what, but I can't find my wireless connection anymore. Before, it was on the tray and I clicked on it and it would ask for my wallet password and then just work. Now the icon is gone and I don't know what to do. The internet works with the cable, but that is very restricting. Please help me, as I have been having to use Windows and I want to use open source. I am VERY new to linux, so any help you can give should bear that in mind. Thanks!

I suspect you may have simply removed it by accident.

Right click on the panel and select unlock widget

Then right click on the panel and select panel options and then select add widgets. A box will open. Scroll down and select the widget and click add widgets.

If you want to move the position of the icon right click on the panel again and select panel options/panel settings. Then hover over the icon - you will see a cross-hair. Click and drag the icon to where you want it.

Finally right click anywhere on the desktop and select lock widgets. I'm guessing that you may have been running with them unlocked which unfortunately makes accidental deletion a mouseclick away.

I have tried that, but it doesn't seem to be listed in the widgets? Is there any way I might have even removed it from my widgets list? If so, where can I get it back...and what is the name of the widget? Thanks!

I think it's network-manager (or something akin to that). Perhaps an update has removed it? It's strange you can't find it.

Another option for you (and one that I use frankly) is Wicd.

Quickest way is to open a terminal and type sudo apt-get install wicd
Hit return
password
hit return
When asked select y and hit return
and wicd will be downloaded and installed in one go.

Then (again the quickest way) hit alt+F2 to launch krunner. Type wicd in the box and below you will see the wicd manager icon. select it. You should then see your wireless connection in the pane. Cl;ick on the name to enter your security settings. You should then be able to connect without having to type in the kwallet password every time you boot.

Wicd is a very elegant solution that many people think should be the default.
