Hi,
I have downloaded kubuntu 9.10 and installed on a Samsung netbook NC10. My wire network work fine, and my wireless is "active" only at starbucks i.e. I can joint their wireless and got to the att home screen where require for identification before access to the internet. So I hope this mean my wireless interface wlan0 is up, otherwise I couldn't even see any SSID boardcast at starbucks, right?
When I am at home, I couldn't get wlan0 to see my netgear AP. I have relaxed all security setting to just make the initial setup work. My SSID is boardcast, my router is not blocking MAC address and it's not checking for any WEP or security key. It's wide open! I couldn't get my Kubuntu 9.10 to joint my AP. My AP is on channel 11, that's is the only thing I could think of that might cause my wireless problem. Should the system auto detect a wireless channel? I have "auto wlan0" in the interface file. Actual my interface file is very simple, it just have "auto lo auto wlan0 iface lo inet loopback". Is there any else need to be in the interface file? Thanks...
This problem was solved by setting the wireless channel the same on 9.10 and the wireless AP. I have force the AP channel to 1, and got connection to my AP from my laptop running 9.10.
