    [SOLVED]Can't Connect... WAP

I can't to connect to my router which uses the simple wap/wap2 protocol with a simple password.

It worked before I wiped 9.04 and installed 9.10.

    Sigh..

If I edit the connection and try to connect ... it pops up the password thing for it 3 times and then gives up even though it has the password.

Sorry to hear that you have connection problems. I found Karmic better than Jaunty, so it's surprising that Karmic has not been so for you, yet.

One possible solution may be to delete the connection and add a new connection with the WPA or WPA2 encryption. Check that you are using home and not enterprise. I found that Karmic is much faster at connecting to my router with WPA2 that Jaunty which used to take over 30 seconds.

Did you try the upgrade path, or, did you really wipe 9.04 and install 9.10?
Another possibility is to dual boot. Leave your Jaunty and install Karmic on another partition. When Karmic is doing everything that you want, you can then try Lucid Lynx or something else on the 'old' Jaunty partition.

@wrender I just wrote this for another thread -- maybe there's some help in it:

So I should try installing wicid?

          with

sudo apt-get remove --purge knemo network-manager
          and

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wicd

ps. System 76 says they have no problems in ubuntu and I have their drivers installed. I have a Serval Pro

That's a judgement that I can't really make -- except to suggest that if your present setup won't connect, then it's difficult to see how you could make it any worse by trying wicd. I know nothing about the Serval Pro -- you might want to Google it with "wireless" and see if you come across anything useful. My suggestion to use wicd is kind of my generic approach to getting any new laptop or netbook to make a wireless connection. Obviously the particular driver and any needed firmware is case-specific to your model.

I installed wicid and it worked.... sweet. Thank you for the help.

Its a real shame I can't use the kde network manager. Hopefully they figure it out next time.

ps. How do I make it so wicid has a icon on the panel to click on like the old network manager?

What wifi card / driver are you using? I'm having similar problems on a thinkpad t500 w/ Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5300

                  This works for me:

                  download latest microcode from Intel:
                  http://intellinuxwireless.org/iwlwif...-8.24.2.12.tgz

                  put the file into /lib/firmware
                  then

                  sudo modprobe -r iwlagn
                  sudo modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1 11n_disable50=1

                  And connects OK to WPA2

Might give wicid a try though...
