Have a terminal after update

I have looked over [SOLVED]Today's update has crippled my desktop

My situation is a bit different:
I was upgrading from 8.04, had no errors, kept previous on all questions.
reboot to terminal
My screen says ubuntu 9.10 KDE2 tty2
Tried startx failed
found an ATI RV350AP Radeon 9600 video card to be installed
Is this the problem?
What next?

For me, at least, I can't assist. You didn't actually 'link' the referenced item. A search of KFN on exactly what you typed:

Go ahead and remove this.
I did a clean install and moved my old info.
So far 10.04 AMD64 is running nice.
