    Boot Problems with new Kernel

    I was using kernel 2.6.31.14 generic ok. Upgrades (or updates) installed .20 and .21 but neither of them worked. I just get to a black screen that says something like

    Ubuntu 9.14 ian tty2
    login;

    I login using my username and password but it just goes back to login. This is not on the blue splashscreen but on a black one.

    For a while I just kept toggling down to my working .14 version but I messed around with my Desktop Effects settings by enabling them and now when .14 loads I just get a black screen and can do nothing (boxes to enable KWallet appear but I can see nothing else).

    So, can anyone tell me how I can get into Kubuntu using the newer kernels or change my Desktop settings using a live CD?

    Thanks for your time.

    I see you've made other posts since this one. Did you resolve this issue, or is it still a problem?
