    Errrrrrrmmmmmm ...

I don't know everything about your hardware there, but (having blown a 550W PSU a couple years back, and replaced it with 650W), no, I would not say 400W is anything more than the low end of PSUs. If you look at the wiki that GG posted, it gives PSU weakness as a causal factor for your MCE error.

Although replacing all the connections inside a PC is not a task to look forward to, it's not rocket science either. I've been known to take a digital photo prior to starting a particularly dense PSU replacement project, to help get it back together correctly. A nice 600W or 700W PSU will cost less than $100, for example:

Of course no one can guarantee that the PSU is the one and only cause of your issue, but you're definitely running on marginal power there.

http://educations.newegg.com/tool/ps...u%20calculator will give you a rough estimate of your power needs.

When I first built my machine, I thought a 400W PSU was enough. After a while, my system would undergo intermittent resets and basically mimic the symptoms that you are talking about, cheeseus.

and I've experienced MCE errors similar to yours on a system that's underpowered. Replacing with a 650W solved the problem for me. It seems like a stretch, I know; but take into consideration the power-hungry nature of modern computers.

          Re: Unable to install

Hm, we are getting slightly OT here, but I've got a 300W power unit for my Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz, GeForce 8500 GT and two optical drives. I've never had any problems, but I suppose my graphics card isn't exactly the latest model...
