Upgrade issues from KDE v4.3.x to v4.4.x on Kubuntu v9.10

I have done this upgrade on three fairly generic Kubuntu machines, one 32-bit and two 64-bit multi-cores.

    Issues:
    • Had to use Synaptic as KPackagekit kept blocking essential packages from installing
    • Had to run upgrade three times to get all installed; YOU MUST DO THIS!!!
    • Upon reboot of 4.4.x, duplicate Desktop plasmoid and system bar panel plasmoid were created.
    • In 4.4.x, all advanced settings of plasmoids disappear, ie, all System Monitor plasmoids lost color settings, and Network plasmoid lost upload metering is shadowed
    • Kicker/Quicksand now pins to top center of screen; You must reset the settings. The radio buttons do not visually activate but do work.
    • Wireless applet settings in system tray pins to top left corner of screen

I was a bit gutted I've not yet been able to figure out how to pin systray notifications (such as choqok & kmail) to another part of my desktop i.e. bottom left:

Some panel icons, such as the weather widget, are not scaling correctly at present as per this thread:

Also, as of today, the pinentry tool for signing emails broke (exception: "Bad Passphrase") so to get that running again I followed this old how-to:
