I successfully upgraded recently from 8.10 to 9.04 to now, 9.10. My Gnome side of the system is working absolutely perfect and even the compiz effects work. So there is no problem here.
I wanted to try the 4.3 KDE, so I did the sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop. This completed successfully with no incident. I then did a package manager update to catch up on everything, and rebooted.
What is happening with KDE is that the initial "icon" screen comes up fine and goes through the various checks then the screen fades to black.
I then get a notification that the akanadi server is starting. That fades, and I get a dialog that informs me of migrations of resources, with messages that these completed.
At this point, there is total blackness with just a cursor. I can't seem to get to a TTY session using the keyboard (ctril-F2 or others). So its basically a black screen with no response.
I have seen a few things online about this, but not exactly.
I am running C2D intel system with the Intel 89245G/GZ Graphics Card. Everything works perfectly in Gnome.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks.
