    kubuntu 9.10 install

    Hi,
I had installed ubuntu 9.10 karmic kola 64 bit on my laptop. I also got the kernel updated. However, I had downloaded kubuntu 9.10 64 bit, subsequently after a month or so. I felt that the kde GUI is better than gnome. May i be blessed with solution as to how to install kubuntu after wiping ubuntu. Or is it that i can do an install on the drive in which ubuntu is installed which will automatically wipe ubuntu off the drive. will there be any boot problems because of the grub2 bootloader which is already installed.
    Solutions/suggestions please.

    Re: kubuntu 9.10 install

Depending on your level of experience, all of the above will work.

Have you downloaded the kubuntu iso yet? You can install it using the "manual" and select the Ubuntu partition and use the format to wipe it clean. Also the Kubuntu iso will create a new boot loader to replace the one Ubuntu created.

Started with #1, what Kubuntu did/going to download. You said "kubuntu 9.10 64" - LiveCD or Alternate?

The "manual" approach is tricky if you have little or no experience.

      or you can just
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
and you will now have on a reboot the choise of KDE in the login screen and kdm to switch to if you like

Hi Verndog, thanks for the reply,
I had actually downloaded kubuntu 9.10 64 bit iso image live cd not alternate cd. and also the ubuntu cd was requested from canonical. i did a manual install following the 7-8 steps prior to installation ubuntu.

Hi vinny, thanks for the suggestion,
Installing kubuntu-desktop or just kde will occupy more space on my drive as i may not be using the gnome gui and that will occupy my hard drive space. so just adding kde may not solve the issue. Thanks
