I have this problem too. Funny thing about this is that some people don't. I guess it's because I installed something. Gnome tool probably, but who knows......

I also can not access User Management. I don't know if this two problems are related to each other.

Re: kdesudo filemanager on kde 4.4 beta 2

        Hi,

Apparently it's not a kdesudo issue and the buck has been officially passed back to kde: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...361/comments/8.

It seems another workaround is to use kdesudo 'dolphin --nofork' & which worked for me mostly (it failed once out of about 5 tries - maybe it was me ) however kate, kwrite and konqueror don't have a nofork option :P

        @ CH~
For the User Management issue see here.

        Cheers,

        Steve

Here kdesudo dolphin (or any other GUI app I want to run as root) works. I am presented with the message "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly." but the app does launch and with root privileges.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

            if I do

            Code:
            kdesudo dolphin
I get dolphin and in the bottom it diplays that messeg "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly." but trying to navagate eneywhare just gets the error redisplayd and no files displayd.

same with kate I can open it with
            Code:
            kdesudo kate
but trying to open eney file with open and you get the file browser..... and the error is displayd and nothing elce.

Okay. You are correct. Same behavior here. Navigating with Dolphin normally, even into root folders, still works, and with my installed rootactions I am still able to work on root owned files, although a pop-up appears with the same dialog. But, I can edit root owned files this way, even with that dialog notification. But, this issue is a problem.

Humm strang ........I was abell to open a root owned file with kate with the root actions "open as text" and dispite the error mesage was abell to edit and save it.

however using the root action "open file manager hear" would produse the same resaults as kdesudo dolphin.....

Yes. I'm sure that some future updates will remedy this. But at least for now, there are 'alternatives' to managing files 'as root.'

That worked for me as well, but this bug should've been fixed for 4.4.1 since it's affecting so many people. And as you said, this workaround only works in certain cases where the nofork option is available.

It appears this problem just got worse for me. After the updates today kdesudo still does not work and gksu or gksudo used to work but now don't. I get the same "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly." I can not get root privileges with either now. Now what do I do??
