[SOLVED] LOUD Click on system start

Running Kubuntu x64 v9.10 with all current updates/fixes/patches.

Whenever system starts there is a very loud click, in fact extremely loud, which is also noticeable when some programs start; it is at the same level no matter what the volume setting is set at.

The click is only at log on or when a program initially starts and does not occur thereafter.

Even a full re-install did not help.

Does not appear to be HW related as it does not happen under Win-7 nor under another Linux distro.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Check out the embedded Youtube video at the following URL. This solved the problem I was having on my install with audio popping.

Cool! I had this 'pop' - not loud, but there - and this 'fix' worked. No more 'pop' sound.

Thanks it fixed my problem too.

Thought I's just recap what is in the video clip.

Open a command prompt and go to /etc/modprobe.d

        Open file alsa-base.conf

Go to the bottom of the file and comment out following line by placing a hash (#) at the start of the line as shown.

        # options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N

Your welcome and thanks go to "gzenitsky " for sharing.

It was driving me nuts when in the middle of the night I would be working and suddenly this very loud click would wake everyone up. >
