Re: Help with upgrade to 9.10
Make sure your machine will first boot from a CD. Put your CD into the drive and reboot.
Running from a CD is somewhat slower than running from a hard drive, so be a little patient. The CD will present you with some options. You can run it as a LiveCD (and install from there, if you'd like) or just install immediately.
Installing from the CD is a clean install, by default, but you can control how it acts if you have a /home on its own disk partition that you want to preserve. You do that by paying attention to the commands and options during the hard drive formatting stage.
Before you start, be sure you have a backup of all your important stuff from /home and any configurations that you may be in love with in /etc. Sometimes if you don't select the right options during the disk formatting stage -- it's buh-bye /home. Been there, regretted it, moved on.
It's not difficult, and no need to rush, just something that needs your attention. The next brick house on the left
