Hangs on first boot to 9.10 karmic fresh install

OK hope someone knows this one.

I have try all the grub2 fixes and none of them have allow my dell 2650 inspiron with 1.7 ghz processor and 256 memory.

I've had kubuntu on it for a while and upgraded many times until kernel 2.4.24 somewhere in there when I started upgrading wit the 2.26 kernels I started having boot issues.

I notice that I can only get to the live cd by setting apci=off and using safe graphics mode.

So do I need a custom kernel or is there something I can do to get the os to boot the first time

Did you keep any of the early kernels in grub? You could always go to an earlier version if you kept at least two in the list. If not, do you have a live CD of a version with a kernel that worked? You could backup and reinstall using that kernel and there are ways to stop kernel updates. Just suggestions, I don't have all the answers but I read a lot.

Thought of something I originally install ubuntu to my laptop so I will try that before I use older kernel.

I'll have to get an older kernel to do that any good post to follow to do this.

      Thanks for the help...
