I'm running Karmic on an Acer Aspire laptop. When I try to switch users (using the "Leave" tool), the screen goes black and the machine freezes. Even CapsLock doesn't work. There's nothing in /var/log/syslog to indicate what happened.
In an earlier installation attempt, I was getting this behavior on initial boot unless I used the recovery kernel -- and even then, I would sometimes encounter it after pressing the down arrow on the first selection screen.
Is this a known problem? How might I track it down?
