    Slow Boot Since KDE 4.3.4

Although my system is far more responsive since upgrade to 4.3.4, my boot time has slowed down considerably, by about 20 secs.
I looked in Ksystemlog , and the slow down seems to be here:

2009-12-05 08:22:20 Desktop kdm_greet[2811] Cannot load /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/faces/.default.face: No such file or directory
2009-12-05 08:22:23 Desktop console-kit-daemon[1049] WARNING: Couldn't read /proc/1043/environ: Failed to open file '/proc/1043/environ': No such file or directory
    2009-12-05 08:22:24 Desktop anacron[2960] Anacron 2.3 started on 2009-12-05
    2009-12-05 08:22:24 Desktop anacron[2960] Will run job `cron.daily' in 5 min.
2009-12-05 08:22:24 Desktop anacron[2960] Jobs will be executed sequentially
    2009-12-05 08:22:38 Desktop wpa_supplicant[1379] CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS
2009-12-05 08:22:42 Desktop NetworkManager <info> Activation (wlan0) starting connection 'NETGEAR'

There seems to be a 22sec delay here.
Not being technical i have no idea what this means.
    Can anyone help?

Re: Slow Boot Since KDE 4.3.4

From my own experience I have concluded that there are a number of desktop widgets that slow down the boot process. Like you, I had a period of about 20 seconds where the KDM splash screen just sat there. removing a weather forecast desktop widget eradicated the problem.

In your case it looks like the network manager widget could be doing it. Have you tried installing wicd (bear in mind it will remove the default network manager) and using that instead?

i think my delay is before that, when the Kubuntu sign comes up and it scrolls.
Prior to KDE 4.2.4 it only scrolled twice, now it scrolls about 10 times?

Re: Slow Boot Since KDE 4.3.4

        Greetings,

I have been seeing this same entry in my system log.

Makes me wonder why the install process didn't create something that the boot process is looking for or that the boot process is looking for something that the install process was not programmed to create. Hmmmm.... That sounds a bit catch-22-ish.

I cannot say that I have seen any kind of noticeable slow down in my boot time, however.

Could any Kubuntu gurus, with knowledge of this, quell our curiosity about this?

I have also noticed about a 20 slower boot time since upgrading to KDE 4.3.4. Sometimes my computer goes out of the Kubuntu start up screen and then flashes in to a black and white screen for another 10 seconds, before going in to the Kubuntu log in screen.
