After upgrading to Karmic at the beginning of
the month I was greeted with a command line
log in. I had to switch to the nv driver or it
was no go. I did alot of searching and tried
a few things but could not get the nvidia driver
to work. I finally cursed and gave up. I did
some more searching in the last couple of days
and found information about a grub kernel
option 'nopat'. That fixed it. As far as I can
determine there has not been mention of it in
kubuntu forums. This problem affects intel and
ati video cards as well. So if you can't get your
video drivers to work its something else you can
try.
