After Ubuntu upgrade Kububtu will not load

I did the upgrade to 9.10 on the 29th of the month. Previously I could choose Ubuntu or Kububtu at the log in screen "Sessions". Now I can only get to Ubuntu although KDE is shown in the drop down of "Sessions". I now have two "xcfer" sessions showing in the drop down that both work. One Ubuntu that works and a KDE that just goes back to the log in/password screen. I went to synaptic and installed everything I thought was relevant in KDE but it still will not open. I do not want to download an iso of Kubuntu because I am afraid when I install it I will lose Ubuntu and have to start over.
    Any suggestions are really appreciated.
    Thank You.

In theory, if Synaptic shows you the package kubuntu-desktop as installed then you have everything necessary to start KDE.

If that's set up, looks like KDE is failing at some point during its initialization. One popular fix is to rename the .kde folder in your home directory (for example login with a Ubuntu session first), log out and then try to log in again in Kubuntu. This will force KDE to recreate the configuration files and use sane defaults. When you are confident, you can restore folder by folder the .kde/share folders from your old .kde folder and see at which point things go wrong again.

You don't need the CD if you are already online with Ubuntu. You can use synaptic or terminal to install kubuntu-desktop then you will have a choice to use ubuntu or kubuntu at login using the select button.

I deleted my .kde folder and tried it. It still did not work. I am going to try just reneming it and see if there a difference.

Re: After Ubuntu upgrade Kububtu will not load SOLVED

I looked in the .kde and all three configuration files. .kde/share/config/startupconfig or startupconfigfiles or startupconfigkeys all had a coment line out past the code "# trigger requesting languages from KLocale" I insertedd in the next line "en" because it was not entered and then KDE/Kubuntu opened up/ Thanks for the hint and help
