    Post update questions

I'm updating a laptop from 9.04 to 9.10. I was wondering if there is a way to update the file system from ext3 to ext4 after updating? And is it possible to convert to a encrypted home directory after update or will I have to reinstall?

    Yes.

    1. boot with a liveCD (the Karmic desktop edition is fine)
    2. open your encrypted filesystem with cryptsetup to create the /dev/mapper/xxxx
    3. and follow the instructions at http://ext4.wiki.kernel.org/index.ph...system_to_ext4 (replace /dev/DEV by by /dev/mapper/xxxx).

I forgot to mention that the integration of upstart and cryptsetup is very annoying. For examples, see:
