Is it possible to switch back to grub-legacy

I've recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 on my machine replacing an old linux install of another distro.

For various reasons I want to switch back to booting with grub (which I gather is called grub-legacy now) but it doesn't apear to be in the 9.10 repositories.

Is there a simple way to convert a 9.10 install to grub-legacy?

    Yep.
Just install grub using your package manager (and it may tell you it is already installed).
Then "re-install" GRUB (Legacy) using standard methods:

Then, after testing it, you may uninstall GRUB 2 using your package manager; however, I would keep it there, just in case you want to try it again or experiment with it. It doesn't take up much space and will not interfere with your GRUB Legacy boot, and it will get its updates.
