When I try to install Kubuntu 9.10 on my pendrive (actually my phone with an 8GB memory card), it fails with the message "Failed to install the bootloader". Earlier I could install Kubuntu 9.04 on my phone from windows, following the tutorial on pendrivelinux.com. It worked, and I installed Kubuntu 9.04 from my phone to my laptop, because my optical drive doesn't work.

Re: USB Startup Disk Creator
Ditto - unetbootin worked while USB creator did not.
My details are in the post below - you might try wiping out the MBR before proceeding as detailed here under USB STICK INSTALL...

Re: USB Startup Disk Creator
Had the same problems. After 2 failed attempts to install the live disk and after installing the MBR of the stick is corrupted and the computer won't start.
I used the alternate disk and this works well. And the alternate disk can also be installed on memory stick.
You can use the Ubuntu or Unetbootin to prepare the alternate disk setup stick.
