    [SOLVED] Installation stops at 76%

I've burned the AMD64 version to CD and began the installation process: removed and recreated partitions, set primary partition as boot then continued with the installation. The installation ceased at 76% of file unpacking and transfer (couldn't see the files being transferred or unpacked).

No error message is reported but it repeatedly asks me to "Insert the disc labeled Kubuntu 9.10 AMD 64 BETA" + the disc's serial number.

My boot CD/DVD drive is and Optiarc DVD RW AD-5170A (flashed to remove region codes). This drive has never failed at any previous time.

I've tried to remedy the fault by:

    removing and replacing the disc,
putting the disc into another drive,
exiting the prompt (which is not possible - the question immediately returns to the screen),

I'm about to reburn the disc and try again using the BenQ drive to boot but thought I'd post here to get other ideas too.

I'm using a self-built PC (a few years old and traveled). In case it's any help to the developers, here's the result of lshw -sanitize:

Hey Dibl, thanks for that. I'll burn the disc at x4 and see what happens. I've burned Kubuntu Discs with the BenQ drive in the past and rarely use it. Perhaps the lens needs cleaning. The Optiarc is self cleaning so I might have better luck using the 9.04 live disc in the BenQ and burning 9.10 with the Optiarc.

I'll let you know how my PC and I get along.

        Re: Installation stops at 76%

        Dible, your solution worked.

Somehow I'd managed to download the Alternate 64bit CD when I first obtained 9.10. I now have the non-alternate version which I burned to CD at x12 speed (K3b didn't offer anything less) before using it to install the new OS.

Boy is it fast compared to my last 9.04 installation. It boots in under 30 seconds whereas my last install took between 2 and 3 minutes; and programs load quickly. I'm running the updates now; hopefully they wont upset things beyond repair.

There's only one thing that annoys me about Kubuntu: networking is never activated by default; I have to question the logic behind that.

          Re: Installation stops at 76%

The Networking widget is available by default but no matter which wi-fi card I use (with any version of Kubuntu) I always have to play with the widget's settings to open a connection. Once I've opened the connection and set it to connect automatically the connection is always active every consequent boot to my desktop. This is fine for me but not for new users who'd have to trawl the Net or seek a friend's assistance to open a network connection. If wi-fi networking cannot be activated by default then it there should at least be a pop-up window to explain how a new user might activate his wi-fi card. And I must say that the new widget is cumbersome compared to the previous one.
