I've recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 and my audio has had problems after plugging in the restricted codecs. I now only have audio through the left speaker - it is definitely mono, since all tests for right speaker get routed through the left only.
I've tried all the usual troubleshooting links and possible fixes, but so far nothing has worked. I'm still newish to Linux (though I've dabbled off and on with computing concepts and simple programing since the 80s).
Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a fix for it that doesn't involve adding pulse audio? It just seems like I need to tell ALSA to allow 2 channel playback but I'm not sure which config file can/should be modified to allow this. (Yes I've tried un-muting stuff in alsamixer via bash - didn't help.) I attempted to create a .asoundrc file but my knowledge of what to put in it is too limited to go beyond anything generic (which didn't work).
Thanks,
Scott
