Sound works in root but not in user account

I have a Asus M2A-VM with integrated HD Audio. I had audio working but some time after playing a game in wine and using aticonfig to set it for dual monitors(which I still havent got working right), I lost the audio. I get a popup asking if I want to remove the drivers for the missing audio device, saying I unplugged the audio card.

However, if I boot into root, sound works fine. The HD drivers are present and linux recognizes my audio device.

Anybody know how to fix this? Is there something I can copy from root and put into my account in order to solve this?

could be a group or permission problem, which you can easily create buy logging into a GUI as root - something which is best to NEVER do....

Try adding your user to the audio group and re-logging in.
