    Geforce G 105M major problem!

Hi guys, I just purchased a HP Pavilion notebook equipped with the G105M graphic chip, I installed Kubuntu 9.10 on it and it seemed to work fine with the default driver. However when I installed the proprietary driver via the "Hardware Drivers" dialog, now I am unable to get into my desktop. The system boots fine until the login screen where it just turns into a complete black screen. I am unable to access the terminal via the "ctrl-alt-f" keys either.

Can someone help me out here, I'm rather desperate as I need to use my notebook urgently for work.

    Thanks!

When you hit the black screen, try just Alt-F1 and see if that gives you a tty console login.

If not, you can do a graceful restart with Alt-SysRq and R S E I U B in sequence. That's easier on your filesystem than the power switch.

You try some framebuffer options -- I'd start with VGA=185, which works with many netbooks and laptops.

Nvidia's site says the 195.36.15 driver is the right one for the G100M series. If I were you, I would download the 32-bit version (I assume your Kubuntu is 32-bit?) from here:

Then follow this guide to install it, after choosing to boot from the "Recovery Console":

    Hope this helps.

Hi, I've installed the 195 driver via PPA and after activating the driver and rebooting, I get the same blank screen problem.
