USB device no longer seen or mounting

Does anyone know if the recent updates have removed code or something as my USB memory sticks and MP3 player are no longer showing up in the notifier or dolphine. They most of them light up but nothing else happens.

I've tried a cable to the connecter to the back of the computer and the reader that is plugged into the front of the computer.

Open Synaptic and reinstall:

usbutils
usbmuxd
uuid-runtime
notification-daemon
upstart

and reboot.
