burning cd iso to dvd-rw not working

I've always used some dvd-rw discs to burn linux install iso's but yesterday i tried to do it with k3b and while attempting to burn the alpha2 of kubuntu to the same disc i've used before it fails always with the error:

    wodim cannot open new session

I've searched the web and there seems to be a holly war between wodim and cdrecord but honestly i don't care about it, like someone say I just want something that works. Is there a way to fix this? Or do i need to build my own cdrecord from the official sources to get it working?

If i do have to build it myself I would say that maybe (k)ubuntu should provide a package for it even on the multiverse repo.

CD-RWs and DVD-RWs are famous for not working. First thing I would try is a CD-R or a DVD-R. Burn at the slowest speed you have available, and use DAO mode if you have it.

I have better luck using Brassero.

I'm just the reversed. K3B never fails. I have trouble with Brasero from time to time.

        What's the output of this:
        wodim -checkdrive

        Here's mine:
        Code:
Device was not specified. Trying to find an appropriate drive...
        Detected CD-R drive: /dev/cdrw
        Using /dev/cdrom of unknown capabilities
        Device type : Removable CD-ROM

        Identification : 'CDDVDW SH-S202J '

Burning CDR works as expected it only fails when burning CD iso images into DVD-RW discs. Just a annoyance since i like to burn the live cd's to try out the new distros before installing them for real.

I prefer to use a DVD RW since some distros are LiveDVD and it would be a waste of discs to burn just to try out. Also I have to do this because my laptop bios doesn't boot from usb devices which is also annoying...

            hmm..
yeah.. burning a new dvd will be waste of disc and plastic
why don't you try usb.. that will save you a disc.. and it will be a lot faster..
