[SOLVED] KK doesn't configure and mount my camera when I plug it in

I am trying to access my camera first time with KK. It isn't "totally" recognized when I plug it into a USB slot:

So, <lsusb> "sees" it (Canon, Inc. PowerShot G2)

<dmesg> shows it but doesn't assign a disk device and (try) mounting it:

How/what can I do to configure something so that when I plug the camera USB into the laptop, it will see it, assign it a disk device mnemonic and mount it?

On another desktop box, I can plug the camera in and it shows
the camera is connected.

the following kernel and OS are loaded on that box:

It also automatically starts up a program <gthumb> which downloads all
the thumbnail pics and displays them.

Now, if only Kubuntu 9.10 could do this on my laptop, I could
take it on my trips and be able to offload the pictures that
I take, and view them on the laptop 15" screen.

I have at least 5 digital cameras in my house, including 2 PowerShots. I've saved many, many hours transferring photos with one of these:

I did a search here for "USB camera" and started reading hits. I soon came across a posting from Feb 28, 2009 by 'lukhas' in spanish (under Spanish Kubuntu thread). In it, he said:

he solved the problem by using a photo app called <digiKam>. It allows one to do this at the toolbar: Import -> Cameras -> to select your camera. If your camera is connected, but not in-use/mounted, this works. It works because <digiKam> accesses the device using USB PTP mode (Picture-Transfer-Protocol) instead of USB MSC mode (Mass Storage Class). This is further explained in wikipedia.

And a thanks to 'dibl' for an alternative solution using a memory reader. I might pick up one of those later for those other apps which don't/can't use USB PTP for accessing memory-devices.

A lot of camera's can be set for eather PTP or MSC ............right now mine is set MSC and read's just like a USB stick.

and as dibl has sead puling the card and sticking it in my multy card reader dose the trick as well.
