    Can't mount usb hard drive

I have a verbatim usb hard drive (1 tb) which i wanted to partition today.I installed KDE partition editor (I use Kubuntu 9.10 on intel pentium 4 1.8 ghz) and at some point it stuck at 30% without doing anything so i pressed the reset button and tried to re-partition it but the pc wouldn't find it.I tried something " tail -f var/log/messages" and something with the same command - 25 i think to see how the hard drive is called and I couldn't find anything.I also tried to mount sdb,sde,sdb1 but it wasn't called like this. What should I do?

I'm assuming that your PC boots properly with this USB drive not connected, yes?

If you have a LiveCD of GParted, boot with it and use that to do your formating/partitioning of the USB HD.

I would agree with Snowhog. You can find Gparted on Parted Magic LiveCD.
