Re: 9.10 no sound on hp dv6 1201au

This is an Entertainment Notbook by HP. The output of aplay-l indicates that there are two sound cards/chips in the laptop, one being a SoundBlaster (SB). Reboot and enter the BIOS setup. Look for a setting allowing you to disable 'onboard' sound, and if it exists, disable it. Save and reboot. Report back.

          there are 3 items:

HDA ATI SB (stac 92xx Analog)

          pulseaudio

HDA ATI HDMA (ATI HDMA) (hdma audio output)

on the test none of them works..

            Open a console and type:
            Code:
            sudo apt-get install --simulate pulseaudio
to simulate installing the package (which almost certainly is not installed). Copy/paste the output in your reply so I can see what will be affected if the actual install is performed.

Good. Nothing 'bad' indicated (wasn't believing that there would, but this is your system, not mine) with a simulated installation. Go ahead and install the package:
                Code:
                sudo apt-get install pulseaudio

Click on the speaker icon in the System Tray and the Mixer button. Make sure that the Master and PCM sliders aren't all the way at the bottom.
