On my Asus M3A-H board I tried to install Kubuntu 9.10 desktop 64bit (clean install), but it will not pass the cd menu. The menu appears, but when selecting the options 'Install Kubuntu' or 'Check disc for defects', a black screen appears with a blinking cursor in the the top left corner and keeps blinking for eternity.
The same problem appears using the Alternate CD or Ubuntu 9.10. But installing and running Ubuntu 8.10 64bit, Open Suse 11.2 64 bit and even XP works perfectly ! So the problem only appears on the latest Ubuntu/Kubuntu versions.
Hardware:
Asus M3A-H/HDMI mainboard with AMD 780G/SB700 chipset
onboard video ATI Radeon 3200GPU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 Processor
Kingston 2x1GB memory
Already tried a different HDD, SATA cable, CD-Rom Drive, disconnected all other hardware. Even the CD's work fine on an other computer.
Virtually I am out of options. Is this hardware just not supported anymore?
