    [Solved]Newbie to ATI cards...

    My dad has a laptop with a ATI Xpress 200M.... how do I enable it/control it?

    I have only used nvidia cards on linux.... sigh.

    Hi

    If you use the Ubuntu supported tools, it's the same as NVIDIA cards: you basically install the binary (proprietary) driver using the Applications -> System ->Hardware Drivers menu. However, I think you will find that your card doesn't show up in the hardware drivers window. This is because (I am almost certain) your card uses an older chipset that is fully supported by the open source driver (R400), so AMD/ATI dropped the proprietary support. Actually, newer chipsets will also be fully suported with the open source drivers soon, which is a great thing (and Kudos go to AMD for that decision, and the volunteers helping with that driver).

      Yeh it does not show up in the hardware drivers thing... but compositing seems to be working.

      So I just use the system settings display stuff to control things?
