[SOLVED] (ATI fglrx) Cannot enable compositing

Hello everyone. I recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 and after using jockey-text, as a work around for jockey-kde's crashiness, I now have the official ATI drivers installed and enabled. Except I am unable to start compositing and cannot figure out why. It provides no feedback, displays no errors, and even says that compositing is enabled before defaulting back to no compositing.

I am truly stumped by this and was hoping that you smart folk would have an easy solution for me

    Thanks in advance

OK so I got it to work but in order to do so I have to manually turn off and then turn back on desktop effects in System Settings after rebooting. I have no idea why this works or how to automate this...

instead of going to system setting and turning it back on (or resume cause its already on ) you can use the key combo of

      ALT+SHIFT+F12

again assuming that it is turned on , and just suspended.

i don't know why this happens but this issue was not present on jaunty.

In order to get this to work correctly I needed to disable functionality checks. That's probably not a safe thing to do but whatever.
